Dietary Aide Job Summary

The Dietary Aide plays a vital role in ensuring that residents receive high-quality meals in a caring environment. This position involves serving meals, cleaning dining and kitchen areas, distributing menu cards, and performing various other food service duties to meet resident satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to dietary procedures and policies.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with inter-departmental personnel and other facility staff to ensure effective food service.
  • Participate in in-services and training sessions as directed.
  • Serve meals that are appealing and appetizing in appearance.
  • Assist in serving meals as needed and on a timely basis.
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control and temperature procedures.
  • Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Clean worktables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, and other equipment.
  • Sweep and mop floors as directed.
  • Wash and clean utensils as directed.
  • Set up meal trays, food carts, dining room, serving areas, and other equipment as instructed.
  • Distribute and collect menus as necessary.
  • Serve food in the dining room as instructed.
  • Remove food trays from carts, dining rooms, and other areas, and take them to the dishwashing area.
  • Prepare snacks as assigned.
  • Prepare foods in accordance with sanitary regulations and established policies and procedures.
  • Assist in preparation for special meals, parties, and other events.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and precautions at all times.
  • Complete daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
  • Report hazardous conditions/equipment to the Dietary Director/Dietician immediately.
  • Report accidents/incidents to the Supervisor on shift.
  • Assist in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
  • Report missing/illegible labels or MSDS's to the Dietary Director/Dietician.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to plan and adapt policies and procedures relating to social services.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate integrity, imagination, and initiative, showing appropriate manner and conduct.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers, and other facility staff.
  • Possess a special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents and the elderly.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in industrial food production preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a long-term care facility a plus.
Environmental and Physical Requirements
  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
  • Meet all health requirements as needed.
  • Dialogue concerning ADA reasonable accommodations are always available upon request – i.e. the interactive process.
