Job Summary

The Certified SPD Supervisor plays a vital role in the Sterile Processing Department at MUSC Health & Medical University of SC. Reporting to the Manager, Sterile Processing, this position coordinates and manages daily activities and operational needs of the department. The supervisor assists the Manager with overall direction, leadership, and supervision of staff, ensuring compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local, and federal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and manages daily activities and operational needs of the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Assists the Manager with overall direction, leadership, and supervision of staff.
  • Performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, and decontamination of surgical instruments.
  • Serves as SPD liaison with other departments.
  • Monitors and participates in quality initiatives and assists with accomplishing organizational and department goals/objectives.

Requirements
  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination.
  • Certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing and as an instrument specialist from IAHCSMM.
  • At least 2 years' experience in sterile processing.
  • Certification in SPD leadership or management from IAHCSMM certification, if not held, must be obtained within 6 months.
