The Preoperative Patient Nurse Navigator plays a vital role in the overall healthcare continuum for qualifying patients in the Orthopedic Service line at the Medical University of South Carolina. This position requires a collaborative approach with hospitalists, gastroenterologists, and other interdisciplinary team members to facilitate care and achieve desired results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling appointments for patients with specialty services and testing under the direction of attending physicians
  • Reminding at-risk patients of upcoming appointments and following up on results
  • Communicating care plans to pertinent medical staff and tracking patient progress
  • Developing and implementing effective patient and staff educational programs
  • Providing exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure seamless patient care

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum of three years related clinical nursing experience
  • Master of Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in lieu of BSN
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
