Position Overview

The role of the Scientist/Senior Scientist in Chemical Research involves contributing to the Research and Exposure Science Department within the National Centre for Food Science. This position focuses on conducting applied chemical research aimed at enhancing analytical capabilities to support the mission of ensuring food safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in applied chemical research, formulating problem statements, generating hypotheses, and proposing technology-driven solutions to bolster food safety operations and risk assessments.
  • Execute laboratory analytical tasks to maintain high-quality outputs and aid in the advancement of innovative analytical techniques.
  • Design and validate novel methodologies to address emerging food safety challenges.
  • Enhance the non-targeted screening platform for early detection of food safety issues.
  • Plan and implement screening processes for food samples to identify potential foodborne chemical hazards.
  • Effectively communicate research findings through presentations, publications, and reports tailored for diverse audiences, including academia, policymakers, and the public.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of research data, scientific analyses, and project proposals.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as procurement and drafting project agreements.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • A postgraduate degree (minimum MSc or preferably PhD) in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant research experience with a strong publication record.
  • Proficiency in analytical chemistry laboratory practices and operation of advanced instruments, including mass spectrometry.
  • Ability to design research proposals and manage research projects effectively.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a dynamic environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic programming knowledge is advantageous.
