Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing support to surgeons and surgical teams during surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare for surgical procedures by pulling and organizing instruments and supplies.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs and pass instruments and retract tissue.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
  • Dispose of sharps and trash and prepare instruments for cleaning.
  • Assist with OR turnover between cases and participate in stocking and replenishing supplies.
  • Participate in training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students.
  • May provide business support to the department, including administrative tasks.
Requirements

This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure. The ideal candidate will be proficient in scrubbing on a minimum of two surgical specialties and have experience working in a fast-paced environment.

This position follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments.

Internal customers are patients, surgeons, and nursing staff. External customers may include practicing physicians, patient families and vendors or sales reps.
