Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Device Specialist to join our team at the City of New York. As a key member of our Traffic Control & Engineering department, you will be responsible for preparing, installing, maintaining, and repairing various traffic control devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices, including signs, stanchions, supports, pavement markers, and traffic counters.
  • Operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments to a broad range of motor vehicles and equipment, including marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, snowplows, and other essential field and shop tools.
  • Perform manual labor in loading and unloading trucks, placing traffic devices, working at varying heights, climbing and working from ladders, and working in tower and bucket trucks.
  • Remove traffic obstructions and operate motor vehicles.
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts in various weather conditions, including inclement weather.
Requirements
  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience using hand and/or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain, and/or install mechanical and/or electrical devices.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with no restrictions valid in the State of New York or a Class B Learners Permit.
  • Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions, including inclement weather.
Preferred Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with mechanical and electrical tools, power devices, and related equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
