Traffic Control & Engineering (TCE) plays a crucial role in the administration, engineering, and operational aspects related to the installation, manufacturing, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices, including signs, flexible bollards, and moveable barriers.
The office leverages the expertise of engineers, sign designers, planners, inspectors, IT specialists, analysts, and other professionals to support the agency's commitment to achieving Vision Zero and other city objectives.
TCE is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Art Room Supervisor.Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Interior Operations, the selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing, planning, and coordinating the preparation, installation, maintenance, manufacturing, and repair of traffic control devices.
This role includes supervising, assigning tasks, and instructing a team of Traffic Device Maintainers and Letterers in the production, installation, repair, and upkeep of traffic signs, sign supports, and related structures.
Administrative duties encompass managing personnel responsibilities, maintaining absence control records, evaluating staff performance, recommending enhancements in methods and procedures, and participating in meetings.
The Art Room Supervisor will ensure the optimal condition of work locations and compliance with all agency safety protocols, fostering a secure work environment for all team members while operating a motor vehicle.
This involves ensuring the proper use and wearing of all safety equipment and gear on-site. Experience in supervising operational staff, meeting deadlines, and ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations is essential.As the Art Room Supervisor, the ideal candidate must exhibit the ability to collaborate effectively, demonstrate a proactive approach to challenges, manage daily operational and administrative tasks, ensure work is conducted safely and efficiently, provide leadership, and assist in staff development across various technical and non-technical domains.
This position offers a chance to contribute to a team dedicated to enhancing safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout the city.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Traffic Device Maintainer with the NYC Department of Transportation; or
- Three years of recent, satisfactory, full-time experience in maintaining, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment or similar duties, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
License Requirement
At the time of appointment, all candidates must possess a valid motor vehicle driver license in the State of New York, which must be maintained throughout employment.
For certain positions, a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York, with no restrictions, is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
