Position Overview

Westfield is on the lookout for a Senior Vice President to lead our newly established Middle Market Property division. This pivotal role will report directly to the Head of E&S Property and demands a robust background in underwriting, with a particular focus on Middle Market Property. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a sophisticated portfolio of business, employing strategies to achieve targeted profitability, Gross Written Premium, and expense objectives, while ensuring effective management and growth of the overall business portfolio.

The ideal candidate will be recognized for their prowess in business development and client engagement, demonstrating technical expertise, integrity, and an exceptional work ethic. This individual will drive results through effective leadership, proactive sales and marketing initiatives, and the cultivation of long-term client relationships, while fostering collaboration with internal partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities within the Middle Market Property sector across the United States.
  • Oversee the implementation of underwriting strategies and ensure accountability within the team.
  • Develop and execute strategies aimed at generating profitable business growth, collaborating with branches and management on new business and retention efforts.
  • Collect and analyze competitive intelligence to inform product development initiatives.
    Essential Competencies:
    • Leadership: Inspire and motivate underwriters to achieve organizational goals aligned with regional vision and values.
    • Underwriting Expertise: Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of products, competitors, and the wholesale marketplace.
    • Relationship Management: Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships with key accounts and manage customer expectations in fluctuating market conditions.
    • Sales and Marketing: Demonstrated ability to effectively market and sell differentiated coverage and service advantages, with strong prospecting skills.
    • Agency Management: Build and maintain robust agency relationships while managing expectations in dynamic market environments.
    • Collaboration: Work effectively with various business units and stakeholders, showcasing strong consultation and partnership skills.
    • Communication: Manage effective communication and awareness among various parties, including brokers, branches, product managers, and senior management.
  • Continuously enhance underwriting guidelines to quantify underwriting standards.
  • Proactively lead efforts to acquire new business and retain existing accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Head of E&S Property to strategize and negotiate middle market ceded strategies.
  • Oversee broker and agency relationships, ensuring high-level expectations are met. Participate in agency analysis and planning, developing strategies to grow the business.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 15 years of high-level E&S Property underwriting experience, with a strong emphasis on middle market.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field.
  • Experience in training and developing staff.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a flexible and dynamic business environment.
