Job Summary:

As a Research Compliance Specialist I at Texas Tech University, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of research conducted on our campus. Your primary responsibility will be to perform routine compliance activities related to research compliance, including human subjects, animal care, conflict of interest, and export control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a working knowledge of current federal regulations, guidelines, and trends influencing the conduct of human subject research.
  • Apply that knowledge to serve as a resource for researchers and provide pre-review of all protocols prior to IRB reviewer assignment.
  • Attend and contribute to IRB board meetings, HRPP staff meetings, and professional development conferences/trainings.
  • Attain certification as Certified IRB Professional (CIP).
  • Facilitate and navigate all user access, IRB submissions, pre-reviews, post approvals, withdrawals, and closures in Cayuse Ethics.
  • Communicate with researchers on project submission status, expiration, renewals, deviations, and approvals.
  • Serve as a liaison with compliance divisions and Office of Research Services on issues related to human subject research.
  • Create, maintain, and enter data into the electronic database/s for IRB reviews, submissions, communication, and outreach.
  • Generate reports from the electronic database/s.
  • Create, maintain, and edit communication/educational documents that are sent out to researchers, students, community members, research participants, and IRB reviewers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field plus one year of related experience; OR a combination of related education and/or experience equal to five years.
  • Master's degree in a job-related field is preferred.
  • Research background/experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work closely with other staff members on projects.
  • Willingness to work in a supporting role and accept directions.
  • Comfortable and able to work within an electronic environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable federal and state regulations.
