Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Acquisitions Editor to join our team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Press. As a key member of our publishing department, you will be responsible for strategically acquiring and developing textbooks and professional books on significant topics in computer science, statistics, robotics, and the physical sciences.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a solid track record of book acquisitions, including textbooks in computer science or a related field. You will work closely with authors and peer reviewers to develop high-quality manuscripts for instructors, students, and professionals. Additionally, you will oversee a backlist of projects and serve as the primary point of contact with authors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a pipeline of projects and collaborate with authors and peer reviewers to develop high-quality manuscripts.

  • Establish robust relationships with MIT faculty members and wider networks of advisors and prospective authors.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of book acquisitions experience in computer science or a related field.
  • Solid track record of book acquisitions, including textbooks in computer science or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work with academic authors and deal with confidential information using discretion.
