Overview:
The Minnesota Service Cooperatives is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for Native American students and their families. Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for the Native American Program Student and Family Advocate position will be tasked with:
  • Establishing and nurturing positive relationships with Native American students, collaborating with educational support staff to create tailored academic and emotional support plans.
  • Facilitating and organizing Native American student affinity groups, ensuring relevant content and materials are provided.
  • Coordinating the Native American Parent Advisory Committee, in alignment with educational grants, focusing on content and resources.
  • Planning and engaging in cultural events for Native American families, such as community meals, storytelling gatherings, and end-of-year celebrations.
  • Communicating effectively with families about student progress, available resources, and community events.
  • Promoting awareness and coordinating programming for significant events within the Native American community.
  • Arranging educational field trips for Native American students.
  • Collaborating with district personnel to gather data on Native American student experiences to identify needs.
  • Representing the organization in relevant training sessions and community gatherings.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with experience working with diverse youth populations and a strong understanding of Native American history and culture are preferred. Knowledge of Indigenous languages is advantageous but not mandatory. Experience in collaborative environments with families and colleagues is highly valued.

Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between various educational facilities. Regular attendance and participation in scheduled events are required. Physical presence in the workplace is essential.

Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in education, youth development, multicultural studies, or related fields is preferred, though not mandatory. Candidates must possess a high school diploma along with relevant education, training, and experience that equip them to perform effectively in this role. Additional qualifications include a commitment to equitable education, strong planning and organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal abilities.
