Role Summary:
The ideal candidate for the Native American Program Student and Family Advocate position will be tasked with:
  • Establishing strong connections with Native American students and addressing their needs through collaboration with fellow support staff to create tailored academic and social-emotional support strategies.
  • Facilitating Native American student affinity groups, including the preparation of relevant content and materials.
  • Coordinating the Native American Parent Advisory Committee in alignment with educational grants, ensuring effective communication and resource sharing.
  • Planning and executing cultural events for Native American families, such as community meals and storytelling gatherings.
  • Engaging with families to share insights about student learning, available resources, and upcoming events within the school and Native American community.
  • Promoting awareness and organizing programming for significant dates in the Native American calendar.
  • Arranging educational field trips for Native American students.
  • Collaborating with district personnel to gather data on Native American student experiences to identify needs and enhance support.
  • Representing the organization in relevant training sessions and community gatherings.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge of Indigenous languages is advantageous but not mandatory. Proven experience in effective collaboration with colleagues and families is highly desirable.

Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between district locations. Regular attendance, including participation in evening events, is expected. Physical presence in the workplace is required.

Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in education, youth development, multicultural studies, or related fields is preferred, though not mandatory. Candidates must possess a high school diploma along with relevant education, training, and experience that equip them for this role. Additional qualifications include a commitment to equitable education, creative planning abilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
