Position Overview

The candidate will be responsible for providing prompt, appropriate, and professional responses to all public inquiries directed to the Commission. The Intake/Case Control team will address questions, make referrals, draft complaints, and direct calls to the relevant Commission personnel.

The Intake/Case Control team acts as a professional representative of the Commission, delivering front-line assistance to the public regarding inquiries and issues related to the Commission.

This role necessitates a high degree of organization, exceptional interpersonal skills, integrity, and sound judgment. The candidate will handle sensitive and highly confidential information and will receive guidance for new and complex tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Responding to online inquiries related to complaint filings.
2. Conducting effective interviews with potential complainants.
3. Analyzing and summarizing information gathered from online inquiries.
4. Preparing investigative case files for further investigations.
5. Sending Notices of Complaints and interrogatories to relevant parties.
6. Delivering excellent customer service, both via telephone and in person.
7. Managing monthly reporting duties.
8. Analyzing and applying relevant laws to determine jurisdiction over cases within ICRL enforcement areas.
9. Drafting appropriate motions for the Commission, including administrative dismissals and default orders.
10. Researching databases for accurate contact information for relevant parties and witnesses.
11. Performing other assigned duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

- Practical knowledge of Indiana Civil Rights Law and Federal Civil Rights Laws.
- The ability to interpret, analyze, and apply laws appropriately in relation to the Civil Rights Law.
- Skills to interpret and apply Commission policies and procedures concerning discrimination charges.
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in public interactions.
- A detail-oriented work ethic.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computers and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- The ability to type with speed and accuracy.
- A general understanding of the functions of other departments and agencies and their relationship to the intake/case control division.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to foster cooperative working relationships.
