Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join our team as a Physical Education Teacher at Braxton County Middle School. As a member of our staff, you will be responsible for teaching physical education and health classes to middle school students, promoting physical activity, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the requirements of the West Virginia Content Standards and Objectives, as well as the district's curriculum program.
  • Use 21st-century technology skills to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Deliver rigorous instruction to all students, promoting academic achievement and physical fitness.
  • Instill in students the importance of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the West Virginia Department of Education and board policies.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to support school-wide academic performance goals and instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formative and informative testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, including sponsoring, planning, and implementing co-curricular activities/programs.
  • Maintain a positive role model for students.
  • Support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373 (Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools) and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers to support student learning.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and colleagues.
  • Keep informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Adhere to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Braxton County Schools' Board of Education/West Virginia Board of Education Policy.
  • Implement programs of study.
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilize instructional management systems models that increase student learning.
  • Monitor student progress towards mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Meet professional responsibilities.
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to learning consistent with school/county mission.
  • Provide curricula required by the state of West Virginia.
  • Demonstrate behavior that reflects established professional responsibilities (i.e., attendance, punctuality, and verbal/nonverbal communication).
  • Demonstrate competency in the knowledge and implementation of technology standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
