Overview
As the foremost executive in Research and Development, the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) plays a pivotal role in defining PolyOne's innovation agenda. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CTO is tasked with fostering a collaborative environment, leading the Corporate Research & Development division, and establishing new avenues for growth in both the short and long term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement PolyOne's comprehensive innovation strategy, focusing on emerging technologies and products that align with customer requirements.
  • Drive investments in sustainable innovations to propel business expansion.
  • Oversee innovation portfolios, product development pipelines, and technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of PolyOne's business segments.
  • Forge strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions and research organizations to expedite the development of critical platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for mergers and acquisitions, as well as licensing agreements, to introduce new solutions and platforms for untapped markets.
  • Enhance PolyOne's Innovation Process, including idea generation, project management, and technology tools, to transition products from concept to market.
  • Strengthen and manage robust Intellectual Property systems to safeguard all patentable inventions and technical data.
  • Lead research initiatives to discover new raw material alternatives that support product innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Product Stewardship to ensure compliance with regulatory standards in product development.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and digital technologies to optimize R&D efficiency and drive business growth.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation that fosters creativity and growth.
  • Inspire high-performing teams to develop innovative solutions that leverage synergies across various business units.
  • Implement effective talent management and training programs within the R&D division to cultivate key talent and maintain a forward-thinking organization.
  • Champion a strong safety and performance culture across technical teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • A customer-centric leader with a strong foundation in technology and business acumen.
  • Ph.D. in Polymers, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative products that align with corporate strategy.
  • Extensive technical expertise in product and formulation development of specialty polymer compounds and composites.
  • A natural curiosity and ability to identify and accelerate innovation opportunities.
  • Proficient in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including employees, customers, and industry associations.
  • Ability to build and leverage a technology network to enhance PolyOne's capabilities.
  • Combines technical knowledge with business insight to act as a strategic partner.
  • Continuously evaluates market potential for innovative ideas and fosters enthusiasm for creative exploration.
