Key Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients to exam rooms in the order of appointment times.
  • Obtain short histories and vital signs as required by the patient's chief complaint.
  • Update patient medication lists.
  • Set up exam rooms according to scheduled procedures or anticipate provider needs for non-scheduled procedures.
  • Transcribe during visits and ensure documentation of patient care meets legal, state health laws, and Medicare regulations.
  • Assist physicians with biopsies and surgical procedures.
  • Educate patients as required after the physician establishes the treatment plan.
  • Ensure patients understand the treatment plan, medication use, and compliance responsibilities before leaving the office.
  • Straighten and clean exam rooms after patient visits.
  • Maintain patient records and charts.
  • Institute emergency care appropriately, accurately, and professionally.
  • Demonstrate proper judgment and decision-making skills when necessary and adhere to practice policies.
  • Monitor and complete lab documents, biopsy and culture books, telephone encounters, and team task boxes within the EMR.
  • Handle clinical phone calls in conjunction with providers.
  • Maintain and follow up with biopsy results for patients.
  • Assist with autoclave procedures and quality controls.
  • Complete clerical functions as directed, such as prior authorizations, scheduling new and follow-up appointments, answering phones, and scanning documents into the EMR.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and team-building skills.
  • Ability to multitask, flexibility, and telephone skills.
  • Customer service skills, time management, organization, attention to detail, scheduling, word processing, and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software programs and medical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • 1 year of experience in dermatology.
  • Current and valid documentation as a Certified (Registered) Medical Assistant or working towards gaining certification.
