Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Yard Manager to join our team at Oldcastle APG. The successful candidate will work closely with the production manager to coordinate and schedule workflow within or between plant functional areas, ensuring timely production and a superior product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish production, inventory, and quality control standards to ensure efficient operations.
  • Prepare and distribute daily reporting to stakeholders, providing insights into production progress and challenges.
  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow to meet production deadlines.
  • Coordinate with managers and workers to ensure timely production of all jobs, maintenance, or normal inventory, and development of new products.
  • Oversee inspection of products to verify conformance to specifications and direct setup and adjustments of machines, estimate, requisition, and inspect materials and supplies.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances in a fair and timely manner.
  • Participate in the development of work plans, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Examine defective machinery to determine the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs or refer to the maintenance crew.
  • Set up and operate machinery, ensuring efficient production and minimal downtime.
  • Inspect work in progress and finished products to ensure quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Enforce safety regulations and recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of equipment.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Complete yard projects with available resources, ensuring timely completion and quality results.
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position may have direct reports as specified by organizational hierarchy and shift specifications, and will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Requirements / Education / Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; or at least one – three years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have project management abilities and a solid understanding of workflow processes, as well as the ability to work with timelines and accuracy to specified deadlines.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Encompass supervisory skills while maintaining a team atmosphere.
  • Conduct self with integrity and ethical practices.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills with the ability to relate with every level of the organization effectively.
  • Demonstrate ability to delegate and/or authority where applicable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear.
  • The employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 65 lbs. from the ground level. The need to lift over 65 lbs. may arise from time to time – should this be the case, employees should engage in team lifting and/or use the provided equipment to safely lift.
  • The employee must have the capability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and your whole body – bending, crouching, climbing - using steps and ladders, pushing pulling, stooping, and reaching.
