Position Overview

The Mortgage Lender is tasked with the essential role of sourcing, negotiating, and facilitating the closing of standard mortgage loans. This position involves assessing, analyzing, and endorsing loan applications. Additionally, the role is pivotal in driving business growth for First Community by fostering new residential mortgage opportunities and cross-selling initiatives.

The role primarily involves working outside of traditional banking environments.

Key Responsibilities (Additional duties may be assigned.)
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of mortgage products and services offered by the Bank.
  • Adhere to bank policies, security protocols, and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This includes collaboration with legal advisors and operational departments to ensure compliance with laws and regulations regarding new or modified banking products and services.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of underwriting criteria associated with all of the Bank's investors and programs.
  • Support the Bank's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Fair Lending initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews with loan applicants to gather necessary information for credit decision-making.
  • Assemble loan packages and facilitate negotiations regarding loan structures with applicants, including fees, repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Perform credit analysis to substantiate loan approvals in accordance with guidelines set by approving officers and/or external investor criteria.
  • Identify and evaluate potential loan markets to cultivate mortgage loan prospects.
  • Enhance the Bank's business by maintaining strong customer relationships and directing clients to appropriate personnel for additional services using Bank-approved techniques.
  • Take ownership of customer inquiries to ensure effective resolution.
  • Act as the primary contact for customer and non-customer inquiries related to mortgage loan products, rates, and procedures.
  • Engage in marketing initiatives with real estate agents, builders, and other stakeholders to generate new business. This includes activities such as hosting realtor open house events, meeting with clients after hours, and reaching out to potential customers during evenings and weekends as requested by realtors.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree, or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient interviewing skills.
  • Capability to present effectively to groups.
  • Ability to perform basic to moderately complex mathematical calculations.
  • Basic problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret various forms of instructions.
  • Proficiency in personal computing and office software (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Self-motivated individual who is focused on goals and results.
Licenses and Certifications

Must possess a valid NMLS license prior to employment or before processing any mortgage loan applications.
