Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Medical Technologist to join our team. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of routine and designated laboratory tests, exercising professional judgment in determining the acceptability of results, and seeking guidance on resolution of instrument, method or specimen problems.

Responsibilities
  • Applies knowledge and skills to perform laboratory tests, including waived and moderate complexity testing.
  • Exercises professional judgment in determining the acceptability of results and seeks guidance as needed.
  • Performs routine QC and QA tasks, resolves problems, and refers complex issues to designated staff.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots complex instruments, maintains laboratory records, and operates LIS computer terminals and printers.
  • May act as group leader to less experienced staff on weekends and holidays to ensure lab service meets patient care needs.
  • Manages infectious specimens, radioactive material, hazardous chemicals, and potentially dangerous instruments in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Participates in work of department as required by workload and demonstrates financial accountability through accurate documentation of workload and efficient use of reagents and supplies.
  • Continuously strengthens knowledge of clinical laboratory principles and techniques through participation in continuing education programs.
  • Assists in specimen processing, shows competency in accurately receiving, centrifuging, aliquoting, and transporting specimens for testing.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Medical Technology from an AMA-approved school.
  • (MLT) Medical Laboratory Technician certification required (ASCP or equivalent) upon hire.
  • No experience necessary, but previous experience in a particular area is a plus.
