As a Health Support Specialist at MyFlorida, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive health support functions in a dynamic and innovative public health setting.
Key Responsibilities- Provide health support functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nursing Consultant and coordination with the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director.
- Participate in clinical and clerical functions, ensuring accuracy, safety, positive customer and team interactions, and adherence to protocol, policies, and procedures at all times.
- Perform venipuncture and other laboratory tests, collect laboratory specimens, and complete electronic or manual requisitions for laboratory tests as applicable.
- Label and date each specimen correctly, complete laboratory log documentation, and perform quality controls at the beginning of each day.
- Monitor refrigerator temperature twice daily, obtain height, weight, blood pressure, and other special procedures as requested by the medical provider or indicated by protocol, and document appropriately on client's medical record.
- Assist Medical Provider with examinations and treatments as requested, abide by preventive health standards outlined in operating protocol, and comply with biohazardous waste policy.
- Maintain lab tracking form and comply with lab tracking policy, keep current of any laboratory policy changes, and discuss with supervisor for clarity as needed.
- Monitor all clinic logs for compliance, take initiative to perform inventory for laboratory supplies and order items as needed, and perform inventory of medical supplies in exam rooms and notify appropriate staff for ordering as soon as possible.
- Scan and attach medical records to electronic health record, ensure positive communication when answering telephones, and assist with telephone messages as appropriate.
- Attend in-service education, staff meetings, and health promotion activities as directed or indicated, and other related duties as requested.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology, phlebotomy skills, and knowledge of basic computer software.
- Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment, taking and reading blood pressure, and interviewing patients and obtaining a complete medical history.
- Ability to follow instructions, keep accurate records, distribute prescribed medications, communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to provide direct patient care services of a medical nature in a public health, medical, or clinical setting, process, coordinate, and follow up on referrals with other agencies and document referrals in the electronic health record.
- Experience as a Medical Assistant or Health Support Technician in a clinic/physician office setting, hospital, or long-term care facility.
- Experience in phlebotomy, bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
