About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Tech to join our team at AdventHealth Rocky Mountain. As a Surgical Tech, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-ups of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Prepare and move patients, sterilize and clean instruments, equipment, and rooms.
  • Use the physician preference card to identify supplies and equipment needed for scheduled surgical or emergency procedures.
  • Set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
  • Provide supplies or equipment upon request for the surgeon, nurses, and/or anesthesiologist.
  • Hold retractors or instruments, sponges, or suctions operative sites, apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders, cut suture material, connect drains to suction apparatus, and apply dressings to wounds.
  • Assist with draping sterile fields, draping and covering operating and instrument tables.
  • Perform appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed, and as needed.
  • Deliver surgical specimens/cultures from operative fields to circulating nurses.
  • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures by checking package integrity, indicators, and opening procedures.
  • Prepare and sterilize supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures.
  • Review and replace supplies in the surgical case following a procedure. Discard expired medications per protocol.
  • Assist with terminal cleaning of operating rooms. Put equipment, supplies, and instruments away as required. Assist in prepping rooms for the next patient.
  • Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
  • Report any life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Successful Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
  • Experience: Basic computer skills required. One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required: Basic Life Support, Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado, Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
