Job Overview

Position: Teacher Mentor

The Teacher Mentor plays a pivotal role in supporting the School Readiness Coordinator to ensure that all aspects of the Head Start Performance Standards in Education are effectively executed and compliant within the Child Care Center Programs. This position operates under the guidance of the School Readiness Coordinator, Center Director, and Director of Early Childhood Education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching to educators aimed at enhancing instructional outcomes, as evaluated by CLASS scores and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
  • Conduct CLASS observations and offer constructive feedback to teaching staff utilizing mentoring strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to program Education policies, procedures, performance standards, and licensing requirements through on-site monitoring of center activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act.
  • Facilitate ongoing technical assistance to partner programs as necessary.
  • Develop strong relationships with staff and Directors in partner programs.
  • Assist in the completion of developmental assessments and ensure timely compliance with the 45-day requirements.
  • Compile and analyze data related to School Readiness Goals and Child Outcomes.
  • Support staff in the interpretation and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Conduct monthly classroom observations to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on observations to enhance teaching practices.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of annual literacy and multicultural events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with relevant coursework in early childhood education, accompanied by two years of teaching experience.
  • Strong understanding of Early Childhood Education principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions and perform mathematical computations.
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of families and effective communication strategies.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Commitment to respecting the confidentiality and integrity of program participants.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to motivate and engage program participants and staff.
  • Capacity to work as part of a cohesive team with various stakeholders.
  • Understanding of societal issues such as poverty, oppression, and discrimination.
  • Ability to conduct individual conferences with teachers to reflect on and apply educational theories in practice.
  • Capability to assist in the planning and evaluation of programs to ensure positive outcomes for children.
