Job Title: Assistant Coach

At Riverdale High, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Coach to join our Baseball/Softball program. The successful candidate will assist the Head Coach in the development, organization, and implementation of the entire program, as well as provide leadership to baseball/softball personnel and student athletes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Coach in providing overall supervision of the baseball/softball program.
  • Assist the Head Coach in maintenance, inventory, and issuance of all equipment.
  • Build sportsmanship and provide good public relations in the school and community.
  • Ensure all student athletes have a current physical exam.
  • Ensure that all student athletes have adequate insurance coverage as specified by the JPPSS and the LHSAA, and that proper documentation on each student signed by the parent/legal guardian to purchase or decline extra insurance exists.
  • Participate in professional development through workshops, literature, clinics, and seminars.
  • Acquire thirty-six (36) Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year (July 1 through June 30).
  • Adhere to Parish and State requirements for promptly reporting rosters, schedules, scores, eligibility, or documentation of incidents or injuries.
  • Cooperate, communicate, and work with the school-based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
Requirements:
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, CECP completion, and/or current LHSAA requirements.
  • Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions.
  • Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component.
  • Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator.
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and competency in basic baseball/softball fundamentals.
  • Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for baseball/softball.
  • Expertise, knowledge, and competency in conditioning of athletes sport-specific.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous playing experience in baseball/softball preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level).
  • Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school, or other recreation activity level in baseball/softball.
  • Expertise, knowledge, and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of baseball/softball injuries.
Physical Involvement:
  • Standing, running, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting is required. Must be able to demonstrate athletic techniques and physically transfer or position athletes as required. He/she must be able to move heavy athletic equipment.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to games, work locations, and meeting sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
