Position Overview

A 2nd Class Welder is responsible for operating the necessary equipment to assemble components with precision. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in various welding techniques while adhering to all safety protocols. Attention to detail and a steady hand are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold and promote the Core Values and Behavior Code.
  • Set up and operate both semi-automatic and fully automatic welding machinery.
  • Weld in multiple positions including flat, vertical, and horizontal.
  • Operate welding-related tools such as positioners, jig fixtures, and cutting devices.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Follow established welding procedures effectively.
  • Select appropriate welding equipment and processes based on specifications; strategize welding sequences to enhance efficiency and minimize distortion.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in four welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, SAW, and FCAW, and pass a restricted accessibility test in the GTAW process.
  • Utilize carbon arc cutting techniques.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including jib hoists, manlifts, and overhead cranes under supervision.
  • Inspect welded surfaces to ensure compliance with size and visual acceptance criteria.
  • Adhere to material control procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Achieve speed of execution while ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, equipment, and supplies.
  • Foster teamwork with colleagues at all levels to address challenges and enhance processes.
  • Engage in continuous learning from peers to develop personal and professional skills.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by job duties.
  • Support company objectives with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in manufacturing welding.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certifications in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with various welding equipment and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with electrical and manual tools.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of safety standards.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability to shift priorities based on organizational needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Dependability, integrity, and professionalism are essential qualities.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This full-time role is situated in a production environment. Physical tasks include frequent handling of light to moderate weight tools or materials, occasional handling of heavier items, and some pulling and pushing. The employee must be capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. The work requires constant alertness, good hand-eye coordination, and focused mental and visual attention.
