Position Overview

A Second Class Welder is responsible for operating the necessary equipment to assemble components with high precision. This role requires proficiency in utilizing various welding equipment while adhering to all safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a steady hand, keen attention to detail, and a solid understanding of different welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold and embody the Core Values and Behavior Code.
  • Set up and operate semi-automatic and fully automatic welding machinery.
  • Weld in multiple positions, including flat, vertical, and horizontal.
  • Effectively operate welding-related tools such as positioners, jig fixtures, and cutting devices.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Follow established welding procedures with precision.
  • Select appropriate welding equipment and techniques based on drawing specifications; strategize welding sequences to enhance efficiency and minimize distortion.
  • Achieve proficiency and qualifications in four welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, SAW, and FCAW, and pass a restricted accessibility test in the GTAW process.
  • Utilize carbon arc cutting skills.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including jib hoists, manlifts, and overhead cranes under supervision.
  • Inspect welded surfaces to ensure compliance with minimum size and visual acceptance criteria.
  • Adhere to proper material control procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Pass the BW Weld Symbol test with a score of 75% or higher.
  • Achieve efficient execution while ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, equipment, and supplies.
  • Foster teamwork with colleagues at all levels to address challenges and enhance processes.
  • Continuously learn from peers and strive for personal and professional development.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by job responsibilities.
  • Promote company objectives with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing welding.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certifications in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with a variety of welding equipment and techniques.
  • Familiarity with electrical and manual tools.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability to shift priorities based on organizational needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Dependability, integrity, and professionalism are essential.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This full-time position operates within a production setting. Physical requirements include frequent handling of light to moderate weight tools or materials, occasional handling of heavier items, and some pulling and pushing. The employee must be capable of lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds. The role necessitates constant alertness and activity, along with good eye-hand coordination and focused mental and visual attention.
