Job Summary

The Tool and Die Technician II is a key position at Alamo Group, responsible for supporting and contributing to the company's goals of profitability, return on investment, inventory turnover, and accident prevention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and/or numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metal parts.
  • Fits and assembles machined parts into complete units.
  • Studies blueprints, sketched, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
  • Diagnoses problems with dies and makes recommendations for repairs or replacement.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material for subsequent welding or cutting.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Fits and assembles designed parts into complete assemblies using jigs, fixtures, surface plates, surface tables, hand/power tools, or presses.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assemblies using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment.
  • Completes first-piece inspection to ensure quality of parts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years' experience as a welder and/or machine operator required.
  • Experience as a machinist preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine ability of materials and machine shop theory as well as layout techniques.
