Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced English language educator to deliver classes for non-native English speakers. As a teacher at the Portland English Language Academy, you will be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans and evaluating student progress over our 4-week terms.

The ideal candidate will create a high energy, supportive, and encouraging classroom environment. The basic teaching schedule is 9AM-1PM, Monday-Friday, 48 weeks per year (12 4-week terms).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans using existing course materials
  • Evaluate student progress one to two times per 4-week term
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades
  • Participate in occasional after-school activities and staff meetings
Requirements
  • Previous experience as an English language teacher or in a similar role is required
  • Bachelor's degree in TESOL or related field (MA:TESOL or related Master's preferred)
  • Familiarity with ESL teaching methods and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills
