Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agriculture Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our regulatory team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, laws, and guidelines related to food safety and agriculture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections and investigations of food manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and laws.
  • Collect and transport samples of food products, environmental swabs, and water samples for analysis.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to colleagues, management, and industry stakeholders on food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Perform State/FDA Contract Inspections, HACCP Inspections, Shellfish Inspections, and other specialized inspections as assigned.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations, and guidance documents.
  • Attend training sessions, meetings, and conferences to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related area from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist is highly desirable.
  • One to three years of experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance, depending on the level of the position.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software applications quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
  • Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent travel, including long days and exposure to different temperatures. The selected candidate must be able to climb stairs in high ranges and work in a fast-paced environment.
