We are in search of a diligent Staff Accountant to contribute to our financial team. This role will report directly to the Controller and requires a candidate with comprehensive experience in various facets of small business accounting, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and the monthly closing process. A relevant degree and prior work experience are essential. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic, integrity, reliability, and a positive attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct general cost accounting and related duties for the organization.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Maintain the general ledger and accurately post journal entries.
  • Code invoices, establish new accounts, reconcile accounts, and finalize monthly financial records.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, verify deposits, and address bank inquiries.
  • Review customer accounts on credit hold and investigate discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the sales department to collect overdue customer invoices and ensure correct application of incoming payments.
  • Manage customer records in the ERP system and conduct reference checks.
  • Verify and reconcile expense reports and other financial documents with account balances.
  • Facilitate vendor payments, including verifying federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for annual audits.
  • File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to accurately prepare tax reports.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, integrity, reliability, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute (45+ WPM preferred).
  • Proficient 10-key typing skills for efficient data entry.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems or QuickBooks.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 annual salary based on experience, qualifications, and references.

Work Environment:

The Staff Accountant will be situated at a desk within the office environment. While Lubbock Electric Company operates a repair facility, it is uncommon for the Staff Accountant to be required to visit the repair shop.
