Job Summary

The Lead Cargo Handler is a critical role within our warehouse operations, responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of freight from acceptance to flight preparation. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Guidance: Provide direction and support to cargo handlers, expediting the movement of freight and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Cross-Training and Utilization: Follow established protocols for cross-training personnel and cross-utilization based on operational demand.
  • Productivity Monitoring: Monitor productivity levels of individual cargo handlers and the team as a whole, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Cargo Preparation: Contribute to and enforce on-time cargo preparation for flight departures, ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce safe handling of company equipment and movement of cargo within the facility and ramp, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Cargo Acceptance Audit: Conduct cargo acceptance audits to ensure accuracy of cargo staging and preparation, reporting any discrepancies or inaccuracies.
  • Quality Control: Monitor net quality inspection and enforce compliance, ensuring that all cargo meets the required standards.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain facility equipment, including forklifts, and ensure that all necessary records are kept up to date.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Provide support to the Warehouse Supervisor and upper management, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Prior warehouse experience with fork-lift driving knowledge is mandatory; prior experience with cargo/freight handling is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, knowledge of warehouse safety procedures, and ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Language: Ability to read, speak, and understand English; bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, specific vision abilities required, and ability to work in confined spaces.
Working Conditions

The Lead Cargo Handler will work in a fast-paced warehouse environment, with frequent exposure to loud noises, hot and cold temperatures, and physical demands. The position requires the ability to work well under pressure and to adapt to changing circumstances.
