Job Overview

Position: Construction Manager – Building Systems (Assistant Project Manager)

Role Summary: The Construction Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Project Manager by overseeing the planning, execution, and coordination of daily construction activities. This position is integral to ensuring effective contractor management, jobsite safety, and quality control throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing daily and periodic field reports, managing administrative tasks, and supervising contractor activities.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications to ensure proper installation by contractors and vendors.
  • Organize and schedule material deliveries, ensuring the safe unloading and management of laydown areas.
  • Maintain communication with local authorities, insurance providers, and emergency services to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure jobsite cleanliness and organization, implementing necessary safety measures and conducting daily safety reviews.
  • Collaborate with safety personnel to update safety logs and accurately document incident reports.
  • Oversee document control processes to ensure compliance and proper storage of field documents and labor reports.
  • Coordinate project reporting with team members, including progress updates, planning, and financial reporting.
  • Facilitate project meetings with contractors and stakeholders to discuss project status and address any challenges.
  • Review and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and Submittals in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and negotiate change orders from contractors to ensure contractual compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to interpret technical plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and procedures.
  • Understanding of site logistics and coordination principles.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, including document control.
  • Proficiency in basic construction management principles, including inventory oversight.
  • A commitment to fostering a collaborative firm culture and adaptability in dynamic environments.

Work Environment: The role involves frequent exposure to moving machinery and potential hazards typical of construction sites. Noise levels can be elevated, and conditions may vary.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit, communicate, and utilize hands for various tasks. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be necessary.

Position Type: This is a full-time role with variable hours based on project needs, which may include overtime.

Travel Requirements: Primarily local travel during business hours, with potential out-of-state travel for project coordination.
