The Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships plays a pivotal role in overseeing a vital student service unit, managing the daily functions of a dynamic, customer-focused team. This position requires visionary leadership to inspire and guide professional and clerical staff towards achieving the university's enrollment objectives while ensuring compliance with financial aid regulations and evaluating the effectiveness of policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Leads the recruitment, training, coaching, and evaluation of professional, clerical, and student staff.
- Manages all facets of processing financial aid for undergraduate and graduate students, including the awarding of grants and scholarships, and determining eligibility for various funding programs.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Enrollment Management to analyze financial aid resources, develop budgetary strategies, and support recruitment and retention efforts.
- Formulates policies and procedures in alignment with federal and state regulations, ensuring ongoing communication and training to adapt to regulatory changes.
- Ensures data accuracy, oversees the departmental budget, and prepares for audits and reporting requirements.
- Engages with Admissions and community partners to enhance understanding of financial aid processes, focusing on equitable access to higher education.
- Creates informative communications for students and families to facilitate understanding and completion of the financial aid process.
- Performs additional duties as required that align with the responsibilities of the position.
A Master's degree and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid leadership within higher education are required. Candidates should possess strong skills in staff supervision, training, and employee relations, with a preference for experience in collective bargaining environments. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, along with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. Leadership experience in building internal and external partnerships is also important. Familiarity with policy development and regulatory compliance related to financial aid programs is preferred. Experience with Banner SIS is a plus, though alternative relevant experience may be considered.
