Catholic Charities of Baltimore is actively seeking an Early Childhood Education Support Specialist who will play a crucial role in assisting and supporting the provision of a secure, engaging, and nurturing atmosphere that promotes the growth, welfare, and development of children. This position involves integrating Catholic Charities' mission, vision, values, and philosophies into daily activities while demonstrating a positive demeanor and commitment to excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to select educational materials and organize the classroom to create a well-structured, inviting environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the developmental stages of the children. Recognize and respect the cultural and home backgrounds of each child.
  • Assist the teaching team in addressing the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards and the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities.
  • Help maintain a classroom environment that reflects the principles of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS):
    • Emotional Support: a setting where children feel motivated, nurtured, and connected.
    • Classroom Organization: a space where children consistently have engaging activities and are interested in learning tasks.
    • Instructional Support: a curriculum that effectively fosters cognitive and language development.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start, and Catholic Charities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to utilize necessary computer systems and software to perform job functions.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to effectively engage with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds; model appropriate language in interactions with children and adults; demonstrate professional responsibility and personal integrity.
  • Accompany children on outings and actively participate in various activities; adhere to the established work schedule and all relevant policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This role requires extended periods of standing and intermittent reaching, bending, walking, stooping, and sitting, including sitting on the floor, as well as the ability to navigate freely throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in buildings without elevators.
  • Must be capable of responding to a child in distress and lifting up to 40 lbs. as needed.
