Catholic Charities' Head Start/Early Head Start initiatives focus on enhancing school readiness and fostering family independence through comprehensive services.

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Harford County Head Start, is currently looking for a Classroom Support Specialist/PRN who will play a vital role in providing support and assistance to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing atmosphere for children's growth, well-being, and development. This position involves integrating Catholic Charities' mission, vision, values, and philosophies into daily responsibilities while demonstrating a positive demeanor and a commitment to excellence.

Catholic Charities Head Start of Carroll County serves as a child and family development program aimed at supporting low-income families, ensuring that their children are well-prepared for kindergarten and more successful in their educational journey and life.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the teaching team in selecting appropriate materials and organizing the classroom to foster a well-managed, welcoming environment that promotes learning and is suitable for the developmental stages of the children. Recognize and respect each child's cultural background and home environment.
  • Support the teaching team in addressing the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards and Catholic Charities' mission, vision, and values.
  • Help maintain a classroom environment that adheres to the principles of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS):
    • Emotional Support: A classroom where children feel motivated, nurtured, and connected.
    • Classroom Organization: A classroom where children consistently have engaging activities and are interested in learning tasks.
    • Instructional Support: A curriculum that effectively fosters cognitive and language development.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start, and Catholic Charities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to utilize necessary computer systems and software to perform job functions.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to effectively interact with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds; model appropriate language when engaging with children and adults; demonstrate professional responsibility and personal integrity.
  • Accompany children on field trips and actively participate in various activities; comply with the established work schedule and all policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position requires extended periods of standing and intermittent activities such as reaching, bending, walking, stooping, and sitting, including sitting on the floor, with the ability to move freely throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in buildings without elevators.
  • Must be able to respond to a child in distress and lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity and clear speech to effectively perform essential job functions.
