Job Title: Phlebo/Specimen Processor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Phlebo/Specimen Processor to join our team at Steward Health Care. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for collecting and processing specimens, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and receive all eligible specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Operate the centrifuge following all safety guidelines.
  • Deliver all specimens to the proper department within specified time frames.
  • Process specimens for sendout department and perform basic sendout protocols.
  • Answer telephones and provide customer service in a professional manner.
  • Follow hospital and department policies regarding personal protective equipment, biohazard waste, and sharps disposal.
  • Order patient lab work as required in the LIS.
  • Review outstanding specimen list with the next shift.
  • Clean and stock the accessioning bench.
  • Properly identify patients in accordance with laboratory and hospital policy.
  • Obtain blood from patients ranging in age from infants to geriatric patients.
  • Obtain blood samples in adequate amounts and in appropriate containers.
  • Initial, date, and time all specimens and place the bar code label in the proper position.
  • Label all specimens with patient information according to hospital and laboratory policy.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • 0-1 years of experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certificate from accredited program preferred.
