Job Overview

The Facility Maintenance Associate is tasked with the routine upkeep and sanitation of designated Wheaton College premises. This role also assists Project Custodians and the Event Setup and Moving Crew as required. Reports to the Custodial Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, and/or a Lead Custodian.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
  • Oversee and manage supply inventory and equipment in designated cleaning zones, ensuring compliance with established levels and standards. Notify supervisors when supplies require replenishment or if equipment needs servicing.
  • During staffing shortages, provide support in cleaning areas outside of regular assignments and undertake additional tasks as directed.
  • Communicate with Supervisors regarding building or cleaning requirements in assigned areas, including unusual cleaning demands, emergencies, safety issues, and necessary building repairs.
  • Respond to campus emergencies that necessitate cleaning, both during and after regular hours.
  • Adhere to and implement safety regulations concerning chemicals and work practices.
  • If designated, perform specialized floor care, cleaning, or other tasks requiring specialized equipment or procedures (e.g., carpet cleaning and hard floor maintenance).
  • Engage in all mandatory training sessions.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in custodial services is preferred.
  • Team-oriented individual committed to institutional and departmental goals, capable of effective collaboration.
  • Dependable with a strong sense of urgency regarding established timelines.
  • Self-driven, with proficient time management abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to adhere to established routines.
  • Capable of following straightforward written or verbal instructions.
  • Completion of Blood Borne Pathogen training is required.
  • Completion of a Physical Exam is required.

Physical Requirements


The employee frequently engages in sitting, talking, and listening; regularly utilizes repetitive hand motions, handles or feels, and is required to stand, walk, reach, climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, lift, and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
