Job Overview

The Facility Maintenance Associate is tasked with the consistent upkeep and sanitation of designated Wheaton College buildings. This role also provides assistance to Project Custodians and the Event Setup and Moving Crew as necessary. The position reports to the Custodial Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, and/or a Lead Custodian.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned facilities in accordance with departmental protocols and standards that have been communicated.
  • Oversee and manage supply inventory and equipment in designated cleaning areas, adhering to prescribed levels and standards. Notify supervisors when supplies require reordering or if equipment is in need of repair.
  • During periods of staffing shortages, assist in cleaning outside of regular work areas and perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate with Supervisors regarding building or cleaning requirements in assigned areas, including unusual cleaning needs, emergencies, safety concerns, and necessary building repairs.
  • Respond to campus emergencies that necessitate cleaning both during and after regular working hours.
  • Implement and adhere to chemical and workplace safety regulations.
  • If assigned, perform specialized floor care, cleaning, or other tasks that require the use of specialized equipment or procedures (e.g., carpet cleaning and hard floor maintenance).
  • Participate in all mandatory training sessions.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior custodial experience is preferred.
  • A collaborative team player committed to institutional and departmental goals, capable of working effectively with others.
  • Must demonstrate reliability and a sense of urgency regarding established timelines.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow established routines.
  • Ability to follow simple written or verbal instructions.
  • Completion of Blood Borne Pathogen training is required.
  • Completion of a Physical Exam is required.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motions, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds.
