Lead Clinical Laboratory Manager Opportunity at Labcorp

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory testing for the Anatomic Pathology department at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, MA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the daily operational activities of the histology and cytology department, ensuring technical and non-technical operations run smoothly.
  • Effectively manage staffing and monitor production schedules to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and have ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff.
  • Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides service levels meeting the needs of pathologists and clients through established metrics for TAT and Quality.
  • Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with the Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors, or corporate operations.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with corporate, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to personnel safety, hazardous waste, and quality of laboratory testing.
  • Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installing equipment and methods.
  • Manage staff, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, training, and development.
  • Ensure effective communication with leadership, clients, pathologists, corporate operations, direct reports, and departmental staff.
  • Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate departmental communication.
  • Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action.
  • Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department(s) for the laboratory pathology departments for desired locations.
  • Oversee Quality Metrics and ensure they meet expectations for both sites.
  • Oversee the laboratory safety program and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Histotechnology, Cytology, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Histotechnologist or Cytologist in a histology or cytology laboratory.
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications are highly preferred.
  • Prior supervisor experience managing several direct reports.
  • Previous experience managing people leaders is a plus.
  • Experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations and policies and procedures.
  • Proven success in training and developing technical and non-technical employees.
  • Ability to problem-solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment.
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
