Key Responsibilities
The technician will be responsible for various tasks related to the drug distribution system, demonstrating proficiency in the core duties of a pharmacy technician. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Filling outpatient prescriptions, including data entry and third-party processing.
- Conducting unit inspections and managing stock inventory.
- Compounding oral liquids and preparing medications accurately.
- Ensuring all medication preparations are documented in accordance with established policies.
- Maintaining the integrity of medications by adhering to storage guidelines.
- Delivering medications to nursing units and ensuring timely distribution.
Medication Preparation
The technician will ensure that all medications are prepared with precision, including:
- Weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients for various dosage forms.
- Labeling medications correctly and entering expiration dates as per policy.
- Verifying all doses with a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
Inventory Management
Responsibilities also include:
- Maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Participating in inventory counts and managing controlled substances securely.
- Identifying and reordering expired medications promptly.
Continuous Improvement
The technician will actively participate in departmental improvement initiatives, utilizing lean principles to enhance workflow and patient safety.
Qualifications
A high school diploma is required, along with certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
