Job Summary

Under the direction of the manager and the in-charge technologist, the CT Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of procedures applying ionizing radiation. The successful candidate will be expected to perform specific tasks as indicated below for CT purposes according to the department policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform CT scans as directed by the Manager.
  • Communicate with the physician and other work-related personnel appropriately.
  • Identify patients and procedures, and communicate with nursing or physician concerning patient needs.
  • Position patients accurately for all CT procedures, and ensure that anatomy is demonstrated for best visibility.
  • Know scanning protocols in depth, and perform procedures correctly using protocol book for reference.
  • Studies must be done in a timely manner and taken to the radiologist for interpretation as soon as possible after completion of exam.
  • Write time procedure is finished and filmed on patient board, and films must be archived and taken to radiologist for reading.
  • Obtain appropriate supplies and prepare room for patient, and keep room cleaned and stocked at all times.
  • Use proper technique when injection IV contrast, and ensure IV is working and checked first with an injection of saline.
  • Choose correct method of injection (hand or injector), and be proficient in filming from imaging workstation.
  • Respond to codes and other emergency situations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Explain CT procedure to patient and/or family member, and obtain completed questionnaire and proper history and clinical from patient, floor or physician's office.
  • Inform patients and families of all delays, and train co-workers and students.
  • Assist other technologists when not busy in assigned CT room.
  • Acquire requisition and check for appropriate clinical, and charge procedure, supplies and surgical codes when exam is completed.
  • Indicate no-film badge wearing name and fluoro time, and add surgical charges when needed.
  • Operate the PAC's system appropriately and verify studies before sending to archive.
  • Report equipment problems to supervisor, in-charge tech and document confirmation numbers.
  • Fill out contrast sheet on all patients receiving IV and rectal contrast, and complete appropriate forms for all procedures.
  • Communicate with radiologist to determine appropriate protocols for each exam, and correct protocols are utilized as prescribed by the radiologist.
  • Perform warm up calibrations as needed, and maintain competency needed for working in the CT department.
  • Perform point of care testing.
Requirements
  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology program with ARRT certification in CT.
  • Registered in CT.
  • CPR certified.
  • SCQRSA.
