Job Summary

The Light Duty Mechanic is a key role in our fleet operations, responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining light construction vehicles and equipment. This position may also supervise apprentice workers engaged in vehicle and equipment repair work.

Essential Duties:
  • Vehicle Inspection and Diagnosis: Inspect light and medium-duty vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions with gas and diesel power.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Repair light construction vehicles and equipment, including large volume pumps and compressors, passenger vans, light duty pickup trucks, welding trucks, medium duty service trucks, Tucker Sno-Cats, and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Diagnostic and Troubleshooting: Utilize scanning tools and computer laptops to diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle and equipment issues.
  • Engine and System Repair: Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  • Disassembly and Assembly: Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes by maintenance schedules.
  • Vehicle Operation: Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Inventory Management: Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance records that meet OEM warranty requirements.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.
  • Mentorship: Mentor apprentice workers engaged in light vehicle and equipment repair work.
  • Compliance: Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Safety: Support AES's zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
Requirements:
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years experience is required.
  • Certification: ASE Certification or OEM Technician Certification is required.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Safety Training Certification: Required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the Arctic environment is preferred.
  • Manufacturer Experience: GM and Ford Dodge Ram Light and Medium Duty repair and Maintenance experience preferred.
  • Fleet Management System Experience: Fleet Focus fleet management system experience preferred.

Working on the North Slope:

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet are free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have its accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Work Environment:

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.
  • Required to complete and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
