Program Overview:
Brooklyn Community Services is a leading non-sectarian social services organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals and families. We provide a wide array of services aimed at education, family support, and fostering self-sufficiency for adults. Our Transitional Living Shelter program is specifically designed to assist young women in achieving employment and securing permanent housing.
Role Summary:
The Employment Support Specialist plays a vital role in guiding clients towards permanent employment and self-sufficiency. This position focuses on building and maintaining relationships with employers to facilitate job placements for young women aged 18-25. The specialist will match clients with suitable job opportunities and advocate for both clients and employers to ensure successful placements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and proactively engage with potential employers to gather information on job openings.
- Provide job development services and maintain employer relationships to secure job vacancies.
- Stay informed on labor market trends and economic data to identify emerging job opportunities.
- Assist clients in customizing resumes and cover letters, and provide coaching on essential soft skills and interview techniques.
- Offer one-on-one coaching and group job preparation sessions to enhance clients' employability.
- Maintain thorough documentation of client progress and employer interactions, including resumes, interviews, and feedback for reporting purposes.
Client Support:
- Assess client needs and document relevant information for job matching.
- Cultivate workplace skills and behaviors to prepare clients for internships and job placements.
- Propose qualified candidates to employers based on job requirements.
- Review job applications to ensure alignment with employer expectations.
- Complete necessary reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Engage with referral sources and collaborate with other service providers as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or G.E.D with two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
- Strong counseling and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organizational abilities and the capacity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Successful completion of a fingerprinting and criminal background check is required.
