The Patient Access Representative I (PAR I) plays a crucial role in ensuring patients receive a warm and efficient experience while accessing medical care. This position encompasses a range of Patient Access functions for individuals seeking Inpatient, Outpatient, and/or Emergency Services. The PAR I is trained across various responsibilities within Patient Access, including Scheduling, Pre-Registration, Financial Clearance, Referrals, Authorizations, Financial Counseling, and Patient Arrival & Registration. A solid understanding of insurance policies and procedures is essential for determining eligibility, benefits, and authorization needs, as well as handling Third Party Liability (TPL), Medi-Cal / Medicare verification, and Workers Compensation eligibility. This role also involves providing patients with estimates, determining financial responsibilities, and securing necessary cash deposits.

Key Responsibilities:

Execute all Patient Access functions such as Scheduling, Pre-Registration, Financial Clearance, Referrals, Authorizations, Financial Counseling, and Patient Arrival/Registration as assigned. Collect, confirm, and update patient demographic and financial information, ensuring accuracy and financial clearance for services. Conduct thorough system searches to secure or assign medical record numbers while adhering to the Patient Identification Policy. Appropriately select referring, attending, admitting, and primary care physicians, while recognizing and addressing any privileging issues. Clarify patient estimates and financial obligations, collecting funds to meet departmental cash collection objectives. Clearly explain registration and consent forms to patients, obtaining necessary signatures. Uphold patient confidentiality at all times. Monitor and resolve Work Queues and Scorecard discrepancies consistently. Comply with state, federal, and regulatory requirements, as well as Cedars-Sinai policies relevant to the admissions department.

Education & Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED is required; an Associate Degree or College Diploma in Hospital Administration or a related field is preferred. A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience is required, ideally within a healthcare environment. Preferred candidates will have two (2) years of experience in healthcare, particularly in Patient Access or Revenue Cycle departments, physician offices, healthcare insurance companies, or related roles. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for evening and weekend shifts, is essential.
