About the Role

Watco Corp is seeking a skilled Railroad Track Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our railroad infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Track Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct thorough inspections of railroad tracks to identify and address any defects or damage.
  • Track Repair and Replacement: Perform repairs and replacements of railroad tracks, including cross ties, switch ties, and rail.
  • Turnout Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair turnouts, including switches and crossovers.
  • Track Construction and Installation: Assist in the construction and installation of new railroad tracks, including grading and ballasting.
  • Road Crossing Maintenance: Inspect and maintain road crossings, including the installation and repair of crossing gates and signals.
  • Bridge Maintenance: Inspect and maintain bridges, including the repair and replacement of bridge components.
  • Culvert and Tunnel Maintenance: Inspect and maintain culverts and tunnels, including the repair and replacement of culvert and tunnel components.
  • Station Facility Maintenance: Inspect and maintain station facilities, including the repair and replacement of station equipment.
  • Scale Maintenance: Inspect and maintain scales, including the repair and replacement of scale components.
  • Right of Way Maintenance: Inspect and maintain right of way, including the repair and replacement of fences and other infrastructure.
  • Sign Maintenance: Inspect and maintain signs, including the repair and replacement of sign components.
  • Vegetation Management: Cut and dispose of vegetation that may interfere with railroad operations.
  • Debris Removal: Remove debris from switches and other railroad infrastructure.
  • Accurate Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance activities and repairs.
Requirements
  • Education: High school education or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 3-6 months of job-related experience or equivalent required.
  • Certifications: Valid driver's license with no restrictions required. CDL required (or must be obtained). Must be able to pass Track Ground School, GCOR Written Test, Roadway Worker Protection Written Test, Fall Protection Written Test, Maintenance of Way Safety Written Test, MSHA/OSHA Training and Certification (if required on site).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to write legibly. Ability to perform duties that require heavy lifting. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to have a flexible work schedule. Ability to recognize problems. Knowledge of Roadway Protection Rules. Broad understanding of railroad operations.
