Position Overview

The Railroad Track Repair Technician role involves the safe and efficient inspection, maintenance, and repair of railroad track systems to ensure reliable service for our clients. This position is primarily manual labor and requires the individual to develop proficiency in various essential skills and responsibilities during a designated training period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, load, unload, and manage the distribution of track materials, including cross ties, switch ties, and ballast.
  • Perform rail inspections, installations, grinding, and transpositions.
  • Oversee the construction, maintenance, and repair of turnouts.
  • Engage in the construction, installation, and maintenance of track, ensuring proper alignment and surface conditions.
  • Manage the construction and upkeep of road crossings.
  • Maintain and repair bridges, ensuring safety and functionality.
  • Inspect and manage culverts and tunnels.
  • Maintain station facilities through inspection and repair.
  • Conduct tests and maintenance on scales.
  • Manage the upkeep of right-of-way and associated fencing.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and visibility of signage.
  • Perform vegetation management and debris removal.
  • Report accurately and promptly as required.
  • Interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions effectively.
  • Communicate professionally with team members and stakeholders.
  • Understand and comply with track authority regulations.
  • Meet performance metrics and deadlines consistently.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and company policies.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents as necessary.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and schematics accurately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or 3 to 6 months of relevant experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions is required.
  • CDL is required or must be obtained.
  • Ability to pass various safety and operational training and certification programs.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Legible writing skills are essential.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
  • Flexibility in work scheduling is necessary.
  • Problem recognition and resolution skills are important.
  • Knowledge of Roadway Protection Rules is required.
  • Understanding of railroad operations is beneficial.
