Overview:


The Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Ellis Medicine operates under the guidance of the Director of Radiology and collaborating Radiologists. This role involves the application of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals to conduct diagnostic imaging examinations, which encompass organ imaging, dynamic studies, and assays of bodily fluids and tissues.


Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold certification from either the ARRT or N.M.T.C.B. in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Prior experience in the field of Nuclear Medicine is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and calculates the correct dosages of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic procedures, adhering to established protocols based on patient specifics such as age and weight.
  • Administers radiopharmaceutical doses to patients through approved methods, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Welcomes patients and thoroughly explains the procedures to foster cooperation and alleviate any concerns. Records pertinent observations that may impact test evaluations, such as medical history and current medications.
  • Operates and sets up imaging equipment for routine studies, ensuring that all procedures align with established guidelines. Assists patients in achieving the necessary positions for imaging while adjusting equipment for optimal results.
  • Communicates test interpretations from physicians to relevant hospital staff. Manages patient scheduling for Nuclear Medicine examinations in the absence of administrative support. Aids in maintaining an accurate inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures examination rooms are well-equipped and orderly.
  • Conducts quality control checks on all imaging instruments to verify their functionality and maintains detailed logs of instrument performance.
  • Performs venipuncture as required, processes blood samples, and provides patients with clear instructions regarding specimen collection.
  • Ensures compliance with radiation safety regulations when receiving and handling radionuclide shipments, including proper disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Follows established protocols in the Exposure Control Manual, ensuring adherence to safety measures regarding bloodborne pathogens and medical waste disposal.
  • Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when performing tasks that may pose an occupational risk.
  • Demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills to provide patient care that is responsive to the physical and psychosocial needs of individuals across various age groups.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $38.59-$57.89 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and educational background. Pay may vary based on location and other factors.
