This position collaborates closely with nursing staff to ensure patient safety and facilitate the provision of fundamental care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities may include continuous monitoring of patients, promptly alerting nursing staff to any changes in condition, and intervening as necessary to uphold safety standards. Effective communication with colleagues, patients, families, and visitors is essential. The role involves executing tasks assigned by nursing personnel while adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

Preferred: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Preferred: Background in hospital settings and telemetry.

Certifications

Required: Valid Louisiana Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is to be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training is also required within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficient in utilizing computer systems, software, and online applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly to various stakeholders in the patient care continuum.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in executing the care plan as directed by the nursing staff within the scope of verified skills.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment in patient care areas.
  • Delivers care that aligns with the physical, emotional, educational, and safety needs of patients across different age groups.
  • Effectively communicates patient care requirements with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Completes documentation related to patient care activities.
  • Adapts interactions to meet the specific needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring respect for privacy and clarity in communication.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements applicable to the role.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
The physical demands of this position require the ability to lift and move objects weighing between 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, and 10 to 25 pounds frequently. The role may also involve constant movement and interaction with patients, necessitating a high level of physical stamina.

Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissues is routine in this position, which requires working directly with patients and in environments where communicable diseases may be present.

As part of a healthcare team, there may be risks associated with exposure to hazardous materials and medications, depending on the specific duties performed.
