Job Overview

A US Army Diver is an elite professional who performs a variety of tasks in underwater conditions, including reconnaissance, demolition, and salvage. This role requires specialization in either scuba diving or deep-sea diving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and clean watercraft propellers and hulls
  • Patch damaged watercraft hulls
  • Salvage sunken equipment
  • Patrol the waters
  • Assist with underwater construction of piers and harbor facilities
  • Survey rivers, beaches, and harbors for underwater obstacles

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have a genuine interest in joining the Army
  • Age: 17 to 34 years old
  • Must meet height/weight requirements
  • No tattoos on hands, face, or above the neck (ring tattoos are acceptable)
  • No history of felony-level offenses
  • No major medical procedures that would prohibit service

Requirements and Training

To become a US Army Diver, candidates must take the ASVAB series of tests, which helps identify their strengths and suitable Army jobs.

The job training involves 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. This includes both classroom and field training.

Compensation and Benefits

Total compensation includes housing, medical, food, special pay, and vacation time.

Candidates may earn up to $50K in cash bonuses just for enlisting under certain Military Occupational Specialties.

Qualified students can earn full-tuition, merit-based scholarships, allowances for books and fees, plus an annual stipend for living expenses.

Civilian Career Opportunities

The skills gained will prepare individuals for careers with companies that produce communications and electronic equipment.

Those interested may be eligible for civilian employment through the Army PaYS program, partnering with employers like AAI Corporation, Eaton Corporation, L-3 Communications Linguist Operations & Technical Support, Comcast Cable Communications, Inc, CDW, LLC, CoxCom, Inc., and T-Mobile.
