About the Role

The Intelligence Analyst - Cryptographic Specialist is responsible for identifying foreign language communications using signals equipment. This crucial role is essential in combat situations, where understanding communications in other languages can significantly impact mission success.

The duties of an Intelligence Analyst - Cryptographic Specialist include:

  • Identifying foreign communications from assigned geographic areas and categorizing signals by activity type;
  • Analyzing foreign communication for information to support mission reporting requirements;
  • Recognizing changes in transmission modes and tipping the appropriate analytical or intercept authority;
  • Providing translation expertise to analysts;
  • Operating systems as needed to support signals Intelligence tasking, reporting, and coordination;
  • Providing gist, transcription, or translation of foreign communications.

This position requires a strong foundation in linguistic skills, with the ability to fluently speak and write in English and at least one additional language. Recruits must also possess good voice quality and be able to communicate effectively.

Requirements

To qualify for this role, recruits must meet the following requirements:

  • A score of 91 on the ASVAB in the Skilled Technical (ST) area;
  • A qualifying score on the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB);
  • Top Secret security clearance;
  • U.S. citizenship;
  • Good voice quality and the ability to speak and write English and an additional language fluently and idiomatically.

The estimated salary for this position is around $60,000-$80,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
