POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Respond to emergency calls, inter-facility transfers, and tiered transport requests, delivering support to patient care within the MercyOne Elkader Ambulance service area.

Under the general oversight of an Emergency Medical Technician, the EMS driver operates the vehicle in a manner that ensures safe and prompt transport when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the ambulance for emergency, non-emergency, and inter-facility calls.
  • Cover on-call hours as needed and directed by the department.
  • Complete all orientation and annual competency assessments.
  • Participate in monthly meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist in preparing for State Inspections through organized record-keeping and maintenance of required training documentation.
  • Support EMTs with restocking and cleaning the ambulance after each call.
  • Attend state/regional/local Emergency Preparedness planning meetings and engage in drills and exercises.
  • Maintain satisfactory state licensure status.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new personnel.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions or incidents to the EMS manager and complete an Incident Report form.


Qualifications:
Valid State of Iowa Driver's License with a clean driving record. Current BLS certification or obtain within one month of employment. Completion of the Emergency Vehicle Operation Course initially and annual updates.
